Through this series entitled Fear and Desire, created primarily in the urban spaces of Yokohama, he sought to create a dialogue between architectural motifs, leisure infrastructure, and forms of life. The photographs depict emblematic locations of the entertainment society—funfairs, amusement parks, illuminated Ferris wheels, and spaces of consumption—which embody both the promise of pleasure and the mechanisms of desire.
